I've been super-busy the last two days attending PLAIN 2011 (ostensibly the reason I am in northern Europe). I've made some excellent professional contacts and so forth, but I think the best thing conversation I had was with a delightful Austrian linguistics professor. He told me that one of his students recently asked him how to learn a new language quickly.

"That's easy," he replied, "fall in love."


The other best person I met yesterday was this guy. I did not fall in love with him but he was a top bloke and I was rather fond of his tattoo.


Tonight I am going to the closing ceremony of the conference, a gala dinner where the entree includes (and I shit you not) reindeer mousse. Can't wait for the dessert course of unicorn parfait.
