Kajak [sic].

So I learned a few new things.
1. Kayak in Swedish is spelled kajak
2. Kajaking is extremely difficult and hard work and I am really not very good at it.

Given the fact that I tend to only enjoy things at which I instantly excel, it is surprising to me that I did not hate the excursion. Far from it. As evidence:

It was tough but incredibly enjoyable, and I may struggle to pick up so much as a pen today, which is a shame because it is the first day of the conference I'm here to attend.

After a long day of seafaring, we had the registration session for the conference and a couple of meetings before heading to dinner with some conference participants. It was great fun. There was scampi and some impromptu table karaoke to Marianne Faithfull (not performed by me, I might add.) I sat next to a wonderful Austrian linguistics profressor who taught me how to say "I am blind like a cow" in Austrian German, which is sure to never come in handy but I am glad to know it regardless.
